Each year outdoor recreation spending equals $255.6 billion in the American West, employing 2.3 million Americans and generating $15.4 billion in federal tax receipts and $15.3 billion in state and local tax receipts.
This economic analysis — a collaboration of OIA and the Western Governors' Association, the Motorcycle Industry Council, the Specialty Vehicle Institute of America, the Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Association and the National Marine Manufacturers Association—outlines the economic impact of outdoor recreation in the American West.
Included activities are bicycling, camping, fishing, hunting, motorcycle riding, off-roading, snow sports, trail sports, wildlife viewing and water sports.
