TORONTO, Canada, Jul 30, 2010 -
Realizing the goals of targeted North American and European marketing campaigns, Canada Goose, the 53-year old premium outerwear brand, is forecasting that it will more than double its sales in the U.S. The brand, committed to keeping its manufacturing in Canada, opened its first corporate office outside Canada in Stockholm, Sweden, and has doubled its sales force. Through a broad array of marketing initiatives, the Canada Goose’s recognized Arctic Disc logo is popping up in some unexpected places, like in a movie musical, on NHL and NBA players and all over the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market Industry Party.
Although a renowned brand name across the globe for decades, 2010 marked the beginning of aggressive marketing initiatives to capture a larger market share in the U.S. With a new sales team headed by U.S. National Sales Manager Ian Widmer, Canada Goose is now being distributed in many top outdoor, ski and fashion retailers, including Gorsuch, Lombardi Sports, and Boyds Philadelphia for the first time. “This year, demand is outweighing supply, with retailers in the outdoor specialty, boutique and department store channels asking to increase their orders,” said Dani Reiss, Canada Goose president and CEO.
“Our European and U.S. customers in the outdoor community love the fact that Canada Goose is a real, authentic brand that is made in Canada,” continued Reiss. “In addition to a quality product that stands the test of time, this authenticity has been the cornerstone of our continued rapid expansion. Our rich heritage is resonating with consumers that are demanding honesty, purposeful design, durability and quality. In the outdoor community, authenticity is king, and our entry into the U.S. outdoor industry has been amazing. Ideas like the annual Canada Goose Cup for The Conservation Alliance, the street hockey tournament we launched at Outdoor Retailer Winter Market 2010, allowed us to make great friends in the industry while raising funds for an important organization.”
In addition to the Canada Goose Cup for The Conservation Alliance, other marketing initiatives Canada Goose has introduced to speak more directly to its consumers includes the Canada Goose Coat Check at major hockey stadiums, such as the Air Canada Centre, home of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Bell Centre, home of the Montreal Canadiens. Canada Goose is the favorite outerwear choice for sports teams including the Toronto Raptors, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadiens. In addition, the brand is partnering with GAP Adventure tours for exclusive, authentic travel adventures led by established experts and developing and supporting the Canada Goose Resource Centers, which provide vital fabrics and materials to traditional sewers in Northern Canada – over 4,500 lbs of materials have been donated since the program started last year.
“Our marketing initiatives are natural extensions of the Canada Goose brand,” said Kevin Spreekmeester, vice president of global marketing for Canada Goose. “They reflect our passion for the outdoors, our Canadian heritage, and our devotion to engineering best-in-class outerwear that is functional and warm. They are all an organic part of our brand DNA.”
